Artist’s Prayer


God, please give me the gift of creativity today.

Please shape my hands around the soft clay.

Please form the words hanging from my lips.

Please help me to feel rhythm in my hips.

Please paint the picture hanging in my mind.

Please show me inspiration, sometimes hard to find.

Please hum a few bars of the song on my heart.

Please help me to express your will through my art.

Please show me the form trapped in the stone.

I surrender my will so my skills you can hone.

Please prepare the paper for words from my soul.

Through my art I will find you and I will be whole.

And when it is complete, when the labor is done,

Please inspire me again, your will, not mine, be done.
